Family Go-Bag Checklist
Essentials to carry during a fast evacuation, organized so each household member can pack deliberately.Health and safety
- Drinking water and easy-to-carry nonperishable food.
- Necessary medications, copies of prescriptions, first-aid supplies, and medical-device supplies.
- Glasses, contact lenses and solution, hearing-aid batteries, and mobility-device supplies.
- NIOSH-approved N95 or P100 respirators for people who can safely wear and properly fit them.
- Weather-appropriate clothing, sturdy shoes, hygiene supplies, and hand sanitizer.
Communication and power
- Phone chargers, power banks, and cables for medical or communication equipment.
- Flashlights, spare batteries, and a battery-powered radio.
- Printed family contacts, shelter information, and local emergency numbers.
- Paper maps showing primary and alternate routes.
Identity, money, and comfort
- Copies of identification, insurance cards, policy information, and key financial documents.
- Cash in small bills and payment cards.
- Spare home, vehicle, gate, and outbuilding keys.
- Diapers, formula, and age-appropriate comfort items for children.
- Pet food, water, medications, records, carrier, leash, and identification.
Remember
- A go-bag is for leaving quickly. Store a larger emergency supply separately for longer disruptions.
- Review bags twice a year and replace expired food, water, medicine, and batteries.
